I planned to post these videos on Friday but, like everyone else, I was overcome with emotion after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School and it didn’t feel appropriate to post videos of me singing with my kids.
Then, I planned to post them yesterday but I spent the entire day in bed because I strained the muscles in my back and chest and was having a tiny bit of trouble breathing without pain. I couldn’t sit up let alone get on the computer.
Today, I am a bit better and thought maybe we could all use a little laugh.
Luisa was out of town when I shot these videos. Apparently, she’ll go all the way to Trinidad to avoid participating in my follies. So, it was just me and the kids trying to record a song for Neil’s Seventh Annual Blogger Christmahanukawanzaakah Online Holiday Concert.
First we tried Snow Miser because the kids wanted hats and wanted to choreograph something. It quickly became clear that Snow Miser was not going to work and we switched to Holly Jolly Christmas which also took several takes.
You can see our final cut of Holly Jolly Christmas (as well as all the other bloggers’ songs) over at Neil’s blog.
The outtakes are an Up Popped A Fox exclusive!
Watch me nag the kids! See Impatient Vikki! Watch the kids bicker! Watch Miguel boss everyone around!
This is what family fun looks like in our house and, for the record, we really do love each other.

Those kids are born to perform! I loved hearing your crabby parent voice, though. I’m so lucky to hear it live, too!
I love how Zeca said, “I wasn’t covering his mouth” when the video clearly shows that she was. LIES!
…and when Miguel said “It was an accident!” and he clearly rips her hat off and throws it. Lesson learned: outfit a hat that holds an extended videocamera on your children at all times.
You know what, Vikki, your video at Neil’s was seriously the first time I smiled during the day, since CT.
My kids are gone during the day, I’m alone, so, yeah, at night, they remind me why I’m here.
But during the day, I’m just so lost since Friday.
You all made me smile.
Thank you.
Same here.
Love this.
thank you.
today i NEEDed a good sing along.
and damn my own children for being ..oh I dunno ..out living their lives…technically in other towns/states…whatever.. i WANT a singalong!
when they did live here and were of such a size as yours… we also made some hilarious music videos… i should dig those out.
I just loved this so much! It was definitely a cup of cheer to my afternoon
I think you all should start a band.
“This was supposed to be fun.” Famous last words.
Loved this!
And then the giggles and butt shaking begin, and I feel at home.
You’re the best mom.
That was the best! I like the way you all do family fun. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!
This was great. I love it.
“I wasn’t covering his mouth!” except. She was. OMG, I needed this laugh. You guys are fabulous.
Really cute! Love the videos! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my stars, I love the Snow Miser outtakes. “I’m not going to spin” and “I want this over” are my favorites.
Oh my word – I love you guys. I love when you said “I just want to get this over with…” LOL
All I could think of in the video of you with the guitar was: All you need is 5 more kids and you can be the Von Trapp family singers.
Oh you and your loves rocked it! Love!!
I missed this until today. Shaul and I watched it here in Jerusalem and laughed out loud! So much fun. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Lots of love to all of you. Happy New Year too.
