Something Blue

IMG_2651When we travel, I keep a detailed journal of the places we visit and the things we do, down the details of what we ate and drank. There are feelings in there too. What would a journal be without feelings? So, when I decided to use this photo for this entry, I turned to the journal I kept during my first trip to Portugal and found the entry corresponding to the purchase of this coffee set: July 16, 1997.  Luisa and I had driven up north and had stayed in a little pensão for two days while visiting Peneda-Gerês National Park. We were on our way back to Luisa’s father’s home and we stopped in Barcelos which had a small shop that sold locally made pottery. I saw this coffee set and was so mesmerized by the color that I had to have it. We have never used it, yet it sits in my china cabinet and I notice it nearly every time I pass by. It reminds me of warm summer winds and vinho verde and olive trees and old stone bridges covered in moss. It reminds me of a moment in time…a moment when it was just me and Luisa and we had all the time in the world.

oh gosh, that is lapis. How beautiful. I love it. And yes, we too, remember those days when we had all the time in the world. But for all the running we do, we love every second of it. And let’s face it, so do you ;-)

It’s true. I wouldn’t trade it. Sometimes, I’m just struck by the differences between then and now.

I too love the coffee set and must correct you – we have used, just not very often :-)

When have we used it?! You are crazy, lady. I use the sugar bowl but I swear we have never used anything else. I actually thought about posting a pic of the sugar bowl because I DO use it but the lid is broken. It’s rather poetic and dramatic that it was broken by toddler Miguel. Oooo…what does it all mean?!

I think I have used this once. I love this set. Maybe you will serve me coffee next week when we are getting my prints matted.

You know what…we might have used it for the first Portuguese dinner! I’ll have to ask my memory. I have a pet name for my memory – it’s “Luisa”.

We used it for the first Portuguese dinner and I think we used it once at our house with friends just for fun.

At least start using the mugs! Black coffee would look amazing in them.

Okay, and I used it that one time, remember when? That party? It was really smoky and dark, and the music was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think, and there were so many gals in the house you couldn’t hardly get from room to room in under five minutes? We needed a place to stick the used– oh. Wait. I’d left MN by then. Never mind.

Ever since you alluded to a Peeps Epic on Twitter, I am all checking back here every 15 minutes. I am all a-dither. I can barely contain myself.

I s’pose I can rely on you to announce it, via Twitter. But still.

It’s like Orson Welles has come out of retirement (wait: risen from the grave? wrong comparison).
