The 2008 Peep Centerpieces

My friend Ali is searching for an explanation for what can only be described as The Peep Phenomenon. It is true that the humble peep has inspired poetry, dioramas, sculptures and mosaics but I certainly can’t explain it. I have fond memories of peeps in my Easter basket as a child but, believe it or not, I simply ate them back then. They are cute…and bright…and hilarious. That said, I honestly don’t know why I love peeps, why I run out and buy hundreds of the little buggers, or why I use them to express myself creatively. All I know is that peeps make me smile.

Today, Zeca was invited into the Secret Society of Peeps. While Luisa and Miguel worked on his centerpiece, Zeca helped me with mine. She excitedly handed me peeps, chose colors and even put some on skewers. She had a blast. Luisa is already dreading next year. Why? Because when both centerpieces were finished, Zeca said, “Next year, for my centerpiece…”

The soccer ball is from one of Miguel’s Playmobil sets.

Just great! I love me some Peeps. I’m more “orthodox” in my Peepology and stick with the traditional (read: from the 70′s and 80′s) colors and shapes: pink and yellow chicks and bunnies. And they must be STALE.

Happy belated Easter!

Peeps are pretty adorable. But yuck. Every year I try one, thinking that something so festive must surely be tasty. But yuck.

hey great use of the tulips!
they are both great
is peepology (above) the term Alsi was looking for?
the colors are so bright and the peeps look
so perfect – but i too have to admit
i would rather look at them and admire them
curious…how long do you keep the peep sculptures around and what do you do with them … do you est them?

Wow … kudos to Miguel and you … I am beginning to be seduced by the allure of the Peep. How blind and foolish I’ve been to not know and see it before now. What I have heretofore dismissed as stale chemicals of indeterminate form you have revealed as clay for art. Beauty is where we find it. Thanks.

Beautiful centerpieces!! Though I must admit that as a self proclaimed soccer diva, I am partial to Miguel’s. Can’t wait to see Zeca’s next year.

I love peeps and each year I swear that I won’t buy as many. I actually prefer mine a stale so they are nice and chewy. I have a friend in Ohio and each year we try and see who can out wait the other before eating them.

I love the center pieces! Next year we’ll have to do this with Little Man.
