Be proud of being nerdy. It is one of the best things to be! I still love new school supplies. But I guess at my age they are called office supplies which is not so exciting.

My mom would have loved kids who got up early for school. She had to drag three out of the four of us out of bed every day. For me, she had to drag me out of bed multiple times each morning. Nothing has changed about that.

Do the kids have new school clothes? That was my favorite thing about going back to school. Made the stomache aches, anxiety, headaches, dread a little more bearable.

I used to get nervous before the first day of school, but I had no idea how anxious I’d be before the first day of school….for my kids! Congratulations to you & Luisa for making it through the first day. May there be many more uneventful first days.

Last year at my daughter’s swim championships the dad of another swimmer was wearing a t-shirt that said “So Far, This Is The Oldest I’ve Ever Been.”

Not a freebie, no good works being advertised but it cracked me up anyway (probably because we’d been sitting poolside for 10+ hours by that point and were going a bit stir-crazy).

The first day went well. I think. I asked them and they each said, “Good! What’s for snack?” My kids slept fine the night before but, today, are up RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE AN HOUR BEFORE THEY NEED TO BE.

Amy, OMG that is the best idea ever! That teacher is a GENIUS. Parents of young children should do that if their kids aren’t lucky enough to have a genius for a teacher. I think that my kids might not buy it at their ages… Darn.

I hope they had a wonderful first day of school! My youngest literally pushed me out the door of her preschool classroom this a.m. Laura, Sam thought he might have trouble sleeping last night but luckily his first grade teacher sent him some special sleeping confetti last week. We had a poem to read, then we sprinkled the confetti under his pillow and, like magic, he fell asleep. When I woke him up this a.m. he announced he had slept great and that the confetti really worked!

Did they have trouble sleeping last night? My kids have as much trouble getting to sleep the night before the first day of school as they do Christmas Eve.

I agree with Miguel – not nerdy, clever. I mean, you gotta go to school, so might as well look forward to it! School started back on thusday for me, and I’ve already had double chemistry an tripple physics on the same day! Serves me right for picking sciency A-levels.
